Saints win 52-49 in insane fashion as Drew Brees burns the Giants to the ground with 7TDs!

The 2015 New Orleans Saints are one of the most unpredictable, crazy, nonsensical, mind-boggling, crazy hot mess teams I have ever seen. AND I LOVE IT!! Drew Brees passed for 300 yards and 4 TD’s at half time, and the Saints won a last second field goal by Kai Forbath. 52-49, in a game where absolutely everything that could happen, did happen. Great plays by the defense, fluke plays, injuries, things that made you want to punch someone in the face (likely a ref), this game had it all. But more important than anything…it had a Saints win.

The Saints defense absolutely could not get out of its own way today. If it wasn’t for one of the absolute greatest games a QB has ever played, all we would be talking about is how awful this defense was. I could easily go on for a few thousand words (many of them not even close to being PG rated) discussing how horrible Brandon Browner was in this game. The bottom line is he was single handedly responsible for at least TWO of the Giants TD drives and that is unforgiveable. I believe he finished the day with FIVE YES! FIVE! penalties…and even if it was only 4…he sucks.

If the defense doesn’t make a late stop and Murphy/Sneed don’t get the Saints in position at the end of this game I am writing something else entirely, and probably calling for the heads of half the defense. The Saints won though so we won’t talk about horrible officiating (HORRIBLE), Breaux still not knowing how to play a deep ball, the entire Saints defense being unable to make even a common tackle on OBJ, or the Saints corners constantly losing coverage or jumping too early on passes (seriously though…hope Swann is ok).  None of that matters today, because the Saints won, and Drew Brees was magical.

Brees passed for 511 yards and SEVEN TD’s tying the all time NFL record, and he only threw 2 bad passes all day. One was a slightly over thrown ball to Brandin Cooks that was just out of his reach (a theme sadly), and another also to Cooks, was a horrible decision to throw a floated ball that got picked, into double coverage instead of scrambling for the first down.  Outside of those two plays Drew Brees was borderline perfect. He was surgical, precise, and magical. Brees did what only some of the greatest who have ever played can do, he put his entire team on his back and he carried them to a win.

Cooks caught 2 TD’s, one on a perfect hook up between him and Drew where it was a perfect route and a perfect throw, and another on a short slant (hey…can we run that more please?!) Brandin took in for a 21 yard TD. Willie Snead outside of his fumble (bang bang play, but he has to hold on to that) also had a strong game and scored one of his 2 TD’s on a beautifully executed flea-flicker. It was over-all a very good day for Saints WR’s. None more so than often ridiculed and much-maligned ‘old-colston’ who decided today was a day to morph into the Colston ‘of old’. Colston put in a retro performance pulling in 114 yards and a TD on a 53-yard jog where he was never covered and coasted right into the end zone (we love you Spags…never change).

The line mostly protected Brees all day, Ben Watson continued to show he has found the fountain of youth with another fantastic game, and Mark Ingram got tough yards whenever he was called upon to do so. There are so many things that happened in this game, and we will cover them throughout the week. However, for today at least, all I want all my fellow Saints fans to do is take a minute and appreciate what you just saw Drew Brees do…because we will never see another like him. At least for me, he will always be the GOAT.
