I’m sure this is out there somewhere but here’s a quick reference in case you needed some dates on your calendar for when to expect the heavy stuff to come this offseason. The offseason is long and sometimes really boring, so of course it’s fun to look ahead and have dates to look forward to:
NOW: The waiver period has already begun. So at any point, starting now, you will potentially see veteran players getting waived, especially if they have big salaries. NFL teams can also currently designate a player for the Franchise/Transition tag.
2/23 through 2/29: NFL Combine in Indianapolis
3/1: Deadling to designate Franchise tag (4pm)
3/7 through 3/9: Teams can begin to negotiate with the agents of Unrestricted Free Agents
3/9: Teams must submit qualifying offers to Restricted Free Agents by 4pm. If they do not, they become UFA’s.
3/9: At 4pm Eastern, Free Agency opens
3/20 through 3/23: NFL Annual meetings
4/28 through 4/30: NFL draft
5/6: Rookie Minicamp
