Below are the players most likely to be taken at 12th overall by the Saints in no specific order:
Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State
I find it highly unlikely he would fall to 12, but while he was all but assuredly going 1st overall earlier in the offseason, his stock is starting to fall a little bit. His combine wasn’t bad but it wasn’t as good as some hoped and he’s been a little criticized for the quality of his interviews. If he falls to twelve by some miracle, you’d have to assume he’s very close to the top of the Saints board.
Myles Jack, OLB, UCLA
The only chance the Saints have of him falling to 12 is the meniscus injury that has prevented him from doing all the drills at the combine. Like Bosa he’s unlikely to fall to 12, but if he does he’s a no brainer.
Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss
This might be the only offensive player the Saints can justify at 12. Fixing their defense is the priority but Treadwell would add a reliable layer to the offense and Brees. An opportunity to get the best receiver in the draft might be tough to pass up.
DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon
He seems like a better fit for a 3-4 defense at end but he’s such a beast I’m sure the Saints would find a place for him. It’s unlikely he’ll be there at 12.
A’Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama
A lot of mock drafts have the Saints taking Robinson. There’s a good chance he’ll be there at 12 and many think he’ll be the best player available at that point.
Vernon Hargreaves III, CB, Florida
Considered the best corner in the draft after Ramsey (who is definitely going top 5). Hargreaves is probably gone before 12 and corner seems like less of a need than the front 7, but you can’t rule it out if he falls.
Andrew Billings, DT, Baylor
He’s young and raw, but so powerful. His ceiling is higher than Robinson’s but he’s probably less solid all around at this point. A very intriguing prospect, though, and he should be there at 12.
Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville
Explosive for a defensive tackle that can collapse the pocket and eat some space. Agile and athletic. He’s likely to be there at 12 and a lot of mocks have him going to the Saints.
Darron Lee, OLB, Ohio State
After a monster combine his stock is way up. 12 feels like a little bit of a reach but if the Saints really feel they need a WLB that can cover they can justify taking Lee at 12.
Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson
Like Lee, his stock keeps going up and up. Some even think he’ll go before 12 at this point. One of the most explosive pass rushers in the draft, he would certainly boost the Saints chances of getting off the field on 3rd down. He’s been a very trendy pick to go to the Saints in recent mocks.
