Awww man, I suck at this. I feel like color schemes are just not my area of expertise. I can barely wear matching colors on a daily basis and I rely on my wife to keep me in check there. She often tells me to re-dress my kids because the shorts and shirt don’t match. Anyway, you don’t care about that. I feel like Mardi Gras is hard for the Saints because black can’t really be incorporated… AND, they’re never playing at carnival time unless it’s the Super Bowl, pretty much, so does it even make sense? I would like to see them go all black one day. Maybe like gold outline on the Fleur de Lis, but otherwise like completely all black. Even a black helmet. Thoughts?

You know, honestly Michael, I thought Vaccaro returned to form last year. I thought he was one of the very few defenders that had a good season. I almost made him my defensive player of the year for the Saints over Cam Jordan. Delvin Breaux was good too. I have a lot of confidence in his ability to perform right now. I’m really expecting big things from him this season. With more depth at safety with Roman Harper and Vonn Bell, too, I think that will give the Saints the liberty to move Vaccaro around a little bit more… which seems to suit his style. I like him having more freedom to roam as a great hunter and tackler in pursuit.

Will we even had 5 guys with interceptions? Haha. I’ll say Breaux leads the team with 4 picks. Byrd with 3. Vaccaro and Lewis with 2 each. I don’t think this backfield gets a ton of picks but we’ll see. Sacks, I’ll say Jordan drops off a bit but leads the team with 8.5. Edebali with 7. Rankins and Fairley with 4.5 each.

They can, absolutely. It would also cost ~$45 million because it would be the third time Brees would be tagged in his career. No way they do that in my opinion, but you never know with Loomis. I could see him getting the transition tag, though.

I don’t think we should be worried about Grayson yet. I want to give him all of training camp and preseason before making any kind of judgement. If we don’t see any clear improvement in live preseason snaps, though, I’ll be very concerned. If a year studying behind Brees under the tutelage of Sean Payton doesn’t show us at least glimpses, then I seriously question his future starting potential in this league. I was vocally against that pick at the time. It sure would be nice to have a guard or defensive end out of that 3rd round pick now. I’m a fan of McCown as the backup, too, so I really don’t like this Grayson pick unless there’s clear signs he’s got potential. As for the kicker job, I’m actually less worried. Forbath and Barth both have a long history of being pretty steady. I’m not expecting either to be awesome, but I’m kind of expecting either to be “ok” regardless of who they go with. I am much more ok with this battle than I was with Hopkins and Hocker. Their track record is relatively good. Hopefully they pick the right one.

I think this is the year we finally see the first 1,000 yard back since Deuce in 2006. He’s the clear #1 and Payton has ditched his back by committee policy to favor Ingram. I’ll say 500 yard receiving too. I think he’ll have a big year. The ONLY thing that gives me slight pause is his injury. That may make Payton relunctant to play him so much. I’d rather him see 15 carries a game and play in week 17 than 25 with an injury in week 12.

He’s gotten rave reviews. Dude is quick. So i’d say he’s made a real positive impact so far and I could see him on the practice squad. I think his only true shot at the final 53 is as a return man, though. Since teams don’t really do a lot of live tackling on special teams in training camp, his best shot at making an impression will be in the four preseason games. I’m thinking he’ll need at least one return for a touchdown to have a chance.

When you say “swagger” I think bad ass. When you say “cool” I think approachable and nice. So swagger I’ll go with Kenny Vaccaro. He just has a strut and an attitude that make him a fierce competitor. He’s one of the least friendly guys on the team as far as I’ve noticed. I’ve met a decent chunk of the guys on the roster and I’ll say the nicest and most approachable are Cyril Lemon, Thomas Morstead, Zach Strief. Leigh Torrence was back as an “intern coach” last year and he’s always been a great dude. I’ll give Erik Harris a shout out as he was really nice and gracious chatting with us before the podcast too. Morstead and Strief are two of the most down to earth and friendly Saints players I have ever met. Just great, great guys.

@randyc5280 asked: Are we really sure they plan to move Anthony? He was developing nicely, he’s the future, why not let him continue developing? He’s younger, would be no more mediocre than Laurinaitis.

Yes, for now. The idea is to get Anthony out of middle linebacker and remove the duty of making checks, audibles and calling plays. Laurinaitis will do that quicker and better. Anthony’s head was swimming last year and it affected his play at times. Not playing the middle will allow him to play more freely and just pursue the ball without the extra responsibilities. I think this will be a really good thing for him. Laurinaitis will teach him how to manage being a MLB and the idea is that Anthony will likely eventually replace JL in time. If Laurinaitis gets hurt, though, I picture Anthony going back to MLB and having something else replace Anthony at SLB.
