Yesterday, Ken Campbell of The Hockey News, published a piece stating that “The Florida Panthers are sending some mixed messages when it comes to the possibility of relocation”.
It was a rather hot take. However, it seems that it had some factual inadequacies.
Enter Doug Cifu. He is Vice Chairman, Partner & Alternate Governor of the Florida Panthers.

@THNKenCampbell @jackdpmjd @EmptySeatsPics ken – factual error in first paragraph. Panthers owe zero to county. Nothing. No loan. Research?
— Doug Cifu (@Dougielarge) December 20, 2014
@Dougielarge @jackdpmjd @EmptySeatsPics Proposal: They'll immediately repay $10.6 million in outstanding loans to county if they get deal.

@THNKenCampbell no sorry ken wrong again. That's been paid off. Panthers owe $0. Kind of a basic fact to check on a story no?
— Doug Cifu (@Dougielarge) December 20, 2014
@THNKenCampbell @TheHockeyNews editor: this is 100% factually incorrect. Panthers owe $0 to county. Ur reporter didn't confirm. Pls correct

Loans were paid off last year, right? – @Dougielarge
— George Richards (@GeorgeRichards) December 20, 2014
@GeorgeRichards yup George. Wrote the check myself. So would you have confirmed that with the team or the County? Journalism 101? Agenda?
