Tonight, the Philadelphia 76ers did not have an impressive first half vs. the Atlanta Hawks, but in the second half that all changed. The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Atlanta Hawks 90-76.
As stated earlier, the Sixers did not play well in the first half; being outscored by six points in the first quarter and by two points in the second quarter. The Hawks had their biggest leads in the second quarter but it all changed in the second half.
The Sixers in the second half turned up the defensive pressure and went on an early run in the third quarter, and eventually holding the Hawks to 10 points scored. That’s all the Sixers needed as they rode another big third quarter to victory.
The Hawks did not get help from the starting lineup tonight as they only put up 38 points. Most of the Hawks offense came from SF Tracy McGrady who had 10 points and former Sixers SG Willie Green who had 14 points.
The Sixers got a lot of points and contribution from their starting lineup tonight. PF Elton Brand had a double-double consisting of 10 points and 16 rebounds. SF Andre Iguodala had another stuffing the stat sheet kind of night with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Rookie C Nikola Vucevic got the start for an injured Spencer Hawes, who did not play because of a left achilles strain. In 29 minutes, Vucevic had 8 points and 7 rebounds, very solid for the rookie. PG Jrue Holiday had a double-double as well, consisting of 16 points and 11 assists. Off the bench, F Thaddeus Young had a great game leading the Sixers in scoring with 20 points.
Tomorrow night, the Philadelphia 76ers (11-4) will travel to South Beach to take on the Miami Heat (10-4). This will be the first time since the first round of the playoffs last season that these two teams will face each other.
