The USA Olympic team beat Cuba by a score of 6 to 0, after putting in a dominating performance. USA fielded a weaker team than expected when they benched Hoffenheim’s Joseph Gyau and Dortmund’s Terrance Boyd. Tijuana midfielder Joe Corona netted a hat trick for the stars and stripes. The Mexican American looked solid in the midfield, made strong passes and great runs that resulted in goals. The Brek Shea and Agudelo combo was in full effect, as Agudelo scored off of a Shea cross.
Union midfielder and captain of the USA Olympic team, Freddy Adu scored off of a long range shot. Adu’s performance showed him playing with confidence and a purpose. Union fans should be excited to see Freddy giving that kind of effort. That is if he can give that kind of effort.
A quick reminder the USA Olympic team is made up of U-23 players. USA is currently playing in a tournament style to see who will advance to the Olympics. To advance to the Olympics they must A) Finish in top two of the group B) advance to the finals.
El Salvador, Canada, and Cuba are the same group as USA. Mexico, Honduras, Panama, and Trinidad are in group B. Two teams will qualify for the Olympics out these teams.
