Philadelphia Union sign German striker Kai Herdling on a loan from Bundesliga side 1899 Hoffenheim. The loan sees the 27 year old wearing blue and gold through June 30th with an option to extend till December 31. In 2010, Herdling signed an extension that will keep him Hoffenheim’s property till 2015.
The Union have been struggling to find goals and manager Nowak feels that Kai Herdling is the answer. Kai Herdling has seen one appearance with Hoffenheim and has not played in top flight Germany since 2010. He has been for Hoffenheim to the reserves which is a fourth division side in Germany. He leads the league in assists with 14 and has netted 9 goals.
Herdling will be available pending a p-1 work visa and could be playing as soon as the next game. It is hard to say whether or not he will start given his pedigree. Given the goal shortage it is assumed that he will be gaining minutes.
