Philadelphia Union grabbed a stoppage time goal to beat LA 2-1.  Michael Farfan’s late game heroics shocked the heavily favored Galaxy and continued a run of form for the Union. Although the U have been playing well and scoring goals they still have their work cut out for them. The Union’s record is currently 4-9-2 on the season.

Philly currently sits second to last in the East with 14 points but have three games in hand. They are currently back 17 points of the final playoff spot and 19 back of East leaders DC. The top spot in the east is out of reach as a collapse of every team and an amazing run of form would need to happen. Even 17 points is a pretty daunting task.

The next 4 games are home (2 league, 1 cup and 1 friendly). The next game is on Sunday against Toronto, the worst team in the league. TFC are 1-5-2 on the road so the Union have to feel confident that they can get three points. The Red patch boys have been scored on 30 times this season making them the second worse defense in the league.

Toronto FC are last in the standings but should not be taken lightly considering the fact that the Union loss to TFC earlier this year. This team cannot be taken lightly; star striker Danny Kovermans has netted 9 of Toronto’s 18 goals. The Union will have their hands full dealing with the 6’3 Dutchman.

With Torsten Frings back from injury TFC has been gaining points in each of their last five games. Although the German has not been scoring goals he is making big contributions on the field and the results show. They are currently on a 1 win and 4 tie streak. Although they have not been winning games they have showed they are resilient.

Working against the Union is the schedule with a midweek game in LA and the semifinal 2 days later, Hack might not field a full team. But enough players have been playing well that the Union should see themselves through with a positive result.

Prediction: Union Win 2-1, in the last two games, the Union have gotten goals from unlikely sources (Keon Daniel and Marfan). That is key because teams are going to start playing Jack Mac up close and as long as the U. I predict a goal from a middy and a striker.

On a side note Argentine legend Juan, Roman Riquelme has stated that he will leave his club Boca Juniors. Like most people as soon as a big name player hit the market I automatically think how he would fit in with the Union. I just want to address this real quick and say he would be an awful signing.

Riquelme is hands down one of my all-time favorite players and would not fit in with the U. His health is suspect, and so is his heart. He claims he is leaving Boca because he has nothing left to give and “feels empty”. All Riquelme’s presence would do is take away minutes from the youth players who are not performing to a high level.
