This afternoon, the Adirondack Phantoms played their second game of the season as on Saturday night they won their regular season opener 6-3 over the Portland Pirates. Well this afternoon’s game was a totally different story from Saturday night’s game.

Today, the Phantoms loss 4-0 to the Springfield Falcons, the AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets. It was not a good game as the Falcons would score all four goals in the first and second periods of action. The Falcons would play better hockey than the Phantoms today especially in terms of the power play. Adirondack was 0 for 7 on the power play, while the Falcons were 1 for 3.

What also help Springfield win was their goaltender. Goalie Curtis McElhinney stopped all 31 of the Phantoms’ shots that they threw at him. In the opposing net, Cal Heeter made his professional debut for Adirondack and he would save 16 of 20 shots.

The three stars from this afternoon’s game were Curtis McElhinney (SPR), Ryan Craig (SPR), and Jonathan Audy-Marchessault (SPR).

The Phantoms record is now (1-1-0) and their next game is on Friday, October 19th. They will be taking on the St. John’s IceCaps (1-1-0) at 6:30 pm as they continue on their four game early season road trip.
