What Can We Take From the Eagles Meeting with Brian Kelly?

If you haven’t heard the news in the past day or so, the Philadelphia Eagles met with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly on Tuesday. This was a shocker to many because this “Kelly” was not on people’s coaching list. In fact, Brian Kelly just finished coaching his team in the national championship versus the Alabama Crimson Tide and let’s just say it wasn’t pretty.

The Eagles and Kelly will talk again after he comes back from vacation. Now what could this possibly spur on the Notre Dame side? A possible raise to keep him there in South Bend. We saw this with Chip Kelly and Bill O’Brien at their respective schools. These college football programs do not want to lose their head coaches to the NFL and rightfully so.

In my opinion, Brian Kelly is an interesting option for the Eagles possible head coaching vacancy but nevertheless he is a pretty solid coach going back to his days at the University of Cincinnati. At the University of Cincinnati, he had a record of 34-6 in four seasons and a few bowl appearances.

Now at Notre Dame, his coaching record is 28-11 and has led the Fighting Irish to three straight bowl appearances. If I’m an Eagles fan do not get concerned that they are looking at another college coach because they are just doing their due diligence in finding the next great head coach. Let’s see how their next talk goes and then we can evaluate from there.

But until then, enjoy the NFL coaching carousel as the Eagles are still looking for their next head coach.
