Before this past lock out, the topic of conversation around the NHL was expanding to more cities. Once again, expansion is the topic. Places like Quebec City, Seattle, and Toronto are the most talked about places for expansion for obvious reasons.
For me, I like the idea of expansion but I think relocating certain teams would work better for the league rather than expanding. Places like Columbus and Florida would be perfect examples to relocate. Both teams don’t ever fill the stands, even in the playoffs.
I’d like to see a team back in Quebec City and in Seattle. Moving a team back to Quebec would be a lot when Atlanta moved to Winnipeg, being very successful and would fill the seats at every game. Moving a team to Seattle would also be a great move by the league. Seattle is known for a solid fan base, not to mention that they have a stadium that is already standing from the Super Sonic days and could be move in ready very quickly.
There has been rumor that the league wants another team in Toronto as well. I think that idea would not work out as well for the league as they think it would. I see it being just like the Rangers and the Islanders in that the Leafs would have a solid fan base as always but the potential other Toronto team would struggle with gaining fans.
If anyone has any other possible relocations or expansion ideas tweet me about it @nickbramante66.
