It was a rather exciting couple of days for the Flyers, as they played the Southeast’s Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, and re-signed their best (and oldest) defenseman to a one year extension.

First off, The Flyers hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning and beat them 2-1 on Tuesday. However, possibly the least likely player on the roster to score, goon Tom Sestito, scored the brace against Anders Lindback, using the same move twice, and earning the games first star. The Flyers penalty kill and defense was phenomenal, holding the league’s best power play unit and one of the best offenses to only one goal. Also, this happened.
On Wednesday, many rumors were arise that the Flyers had agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal to veteran (but still pretty darn good) defenseman Kimmo Timonen. The 37-year-old Finnish blueliner will almost definitely retire at the end of next season, when the deal expires. It is quite a bit for a player of his age, and the Flyers now have about $2 million in cap room for next season.

Tonight, the Flyers hosted the Florida Panthers, and they played a great game, but failed to take advantage of their dominant possession in the third period and overtime, and fell in the cursed shootout, 3-2. Goals were scored by Jakub Voracek and Matt Read, who now has 4 goals vs. the Panthers (and 4 goals on the year). Ilya Bryzgalov continued to play great (as always) but unfortunately, the Flyers were unable to capitalize on their near monopoly of puck possession in the five minute overtime.
