If you play hard for 60 minutes, you have a very good chance of winning the game. It’s really that simple. Unfortunately, The Flyers were only able to put together a solid 3rd period, and it showed as they fell 2-1 to the division rival New York Rangers.
Ryan Callahan and Michael Del Zotto scored the goals for New York, and Kimmo Timonen got his first of the year in the third period on one of the Flyers’ six power plays. This brings me to my next point. The special teams need to be the focus of Peter Laviolette as they move forward toward their next opponents, the Washington Capitals, on Friday. The Flyers went 1-for-6 on the power play tonight, while allowing the Rangers to score on one of their two power plays. It also seems that the forwards are not quite back to their high-scoring ways of last year; in particular Claude Giroux has appeared to be not quite as effective as he usually is. Perhaps Laviolette should consider a line shuffle.
