With just under five hours till the Union were set to unveil the brand new 3rd kit to the public at Xfinity Live, photos were leaked and made public. It has been long speculated that the new kits would be black and white but nobody knew what they would look like. A very simple and basic design, with all black and white trim on the sleeves.  The BIMBO logo is re-done in red to fit the jersey.

Before people start bashing how ugly this jersey it is, take a second to learn what it stands for. It is a tribute jersey for one of America’s most successful teams. The jersey is modeled off of Bethlehem Steel FC jersey’s from the early 1900’s. Formed in 1911 Bethlehem Steel was originally a factory club team, until it went professional. Owner of the steel mill, Charles Schwab, also funded Bethlehem Steele Athletic Field, which is America’s first soccer stadium.
The team was abolished in 1930, they bagged a grand total of nine league championships and finished runner up five times. BSFC took home six American cups and was a national powerhouse. The significance of Bethlehem Steel lies in the National challenge cup, currently known as the US Open Cup, the most prominent cup of their time. They were able to win five National Challenge Cups, a record that has yet to be broken in the 100 years of the cups history.

This new retro jersey will replace the white jersey which was poorly accepted by the public. A black jersey is seen as common in the footballing world. A criticism of these jerseys are that they resemble conference rivals DC United kits. This jersey is a fresh new look for the Union and something different.
