Tonight, was the Penn Quakers night as everything was going their way. They led throughout the entire game and defeated Harvard 75-72. This was a big win for the Quakers but a bad loss for the Crimson. Harvard needed to win tonight to keep up with Princeton in the Ivy League standings. Remember there is no conference tournament for the Ivy League so whoever is in first place they get an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Believe it or not, the Quakers were led in scoring tonight by freshman guard Tony Hicks. Hicks on the season is only averaging 9.5 points per game but tonight scored 24 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out five assists.

What also gave the Quakers an upper hand tonight was a contribution from another freshman. Center Darien Nelson-Henry had a double-double consisting of 18 points and 11 rebounds. So great job tonight by the young Quakers.

Even though, the Quakers will not be playing in any postseason tournament this season, they can use this win to propel them into next season. Penn’s record is 8-20 and in conference they are 5-6. But the luxury that they do have is that they are young.

Henry Brooks is going to be a junior, Darien Nelson-Henry, Tony Hicks will be sophomores, and Miles Cartwright will be a senior. All these players were in tonight’s starting lineup. This a formidable core that could possibly put Penn in contention for the Ivy League title next season.

The Quakers finish out the season with games at Brown, at Yale, and the regular season finale at home versus Princeton. By that time, they could be playing spoiler just like they did tonight.
