Eagles reach out to Right Tackle Eric Winston

We all know the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line problems were well documented with Jason Peters, Todd Herremans, and Jason Kelce all going down last season and we were left with King Dunlap to protect our quarterbacks. On Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Reid’s new team released right tackle Eric Winston which caught the Eagles interest.

With the Chiefs releasing Winston it seems like they will use the number one pick on Texas A&M offensive tackle Luke Joeckel, who many proclaim could be the next Joe Thomas, the offensive lineman from the Cleveland Browns. Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Eagles were one out of two teams to reach out to Winston after his release.

You are probably wondering why the Eagles are interested in the right tackle. Well, Winston is a very durable right tackle. Over the last six seasons, he has started all 96 games. We haven’t had linemen like that since Jon Runyan and Tra Thomas maybe.

Bowen also reported that the other team that showed interest was Winston’s former team the Houston Texans. The Texans originally drafted Winston back in 2006 and released him last March.

With Winston being on the market and the possible amount of money the Eagles will have in free agency, I think they have to make a play for him. You are not sure how healthy Jason Peters will be or even Todd Herremans who was your right tackle.

With that being said, if I’m Howie Roseman, Chip Kelly, and Jeffrey Lurie give Eric Winston a three year contract and see from there. You can never have too many good offensive linemen as last season proved.
