You cannot script this story or the game of basketball as this year’s NCAA Tournament has shown. But the La Salle Explorers show you that anything is possible and they are currently livin the dream! Tonight, the La Salle Explorers defeated the Ole Miss Rebels 76-74 off of a game winning layup with 2.5 seconds left in the game by guard Tyrone Garland or as he calls it “The Southwest Philly Floater”.
The Explorers came into tonight’s game as underdog as many people expected eccentric guard Marshall Henderson and the Ole Miss Rebels to win. But La Salle had other ideas as they came to play and wasn’t scared to play the SEC conference tournament champions. The Explorers were led in scoring tonight by senior guard Ramon Galloway.
Galloway scored 24 points and was 6 of 10 from the three point line. He set the tone for the Explorers early and often throughout the game. His backcourt mate, Tyreek Duren actually had a good game in the NCAA Tournament. He scored 19 points, grabbed four rebounds, and was 6 of 7 from the free throw line.
For the Rebels, the enigma himself, Marshall Henderson scored 21 points and was a horrible 4 of 15 from the three point line. Forward Murphy Holloway had a double-double and really was a force in the middle. He had 14 points and 13 rebounds.
To get back to the hero of our story, Tyrone Garland who had 17 points in the Explorers win but his 16th and 17th points were huge not only in his career but in La Salle’s history. The Explorers magical ride now continues to the Sweet 16 as they now take on the ninth seeded Wichita State Shockers on Thursday night at 10:17 pm at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Maybe this Explorers team is California dreaming or they have “Ambitionz az a Ridah” by rapper Tupac. Whatever it is, they are playing with a toughness and mantra that cannot be stop. They represent the city of Philadelphia and La Salle University, so enjoy the ride everyone!
