In response to Jovan’s article about Paul Holmgren saying that he will not cut goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, I hope this is some sick joke that Holmgren is trying to play on the fans. Bryzgalov is not a 5.67 million dollar per year type of goalie, especially in a salary cap that is decreasing by eight million dollars. He is not Henrik Lunquvist, Pekka Rinne, Ryan Miller, or Jonathan Quick and he shouldn’t be getting paid like he is.
He doesn’t steal games like they do and he is not even close in terms of consistency compared to them. The fact that Holmgren has received these two amnesty clauses is a gift from God and I really hope that he does not mess this up. Cut Bryz and cut Danny Briere. Use that almost 12 million dollars from those two and sign a true top two d man and another above average goalie. If Mr. Holmgren does not cut these two players this offseason, he should lose his job immediately and Flyers fans should be beyond angry.
