Even though, both of these teams are in totally different conferences it doesn’t mean a thing for now. Villanova and Syracuse will play a home and home series for the next two seasons.
The first game of the home and home series will take place on December 13th at the Carrier Dome, while the second game will happen the following season at the Wells Fargo Center. In my opinion, this is great to see this rivalry continue and other people agree as well such as Villanova director of athletics Vince Nicastro. “Our annual games against Syracuse were an integral part of our basketball schedule over the past 30 years,” he said.
Villanova and Syracuse have played each other 70 times with the Orange having a 38-32 series lead. Last season, the two teams split the season series as the Wildcats stunned the then No. 3 ranked Syracuse Orange at Wells Fargo Center 75-71 in overtime on January 26th. Villanova head coach Jay Wright said “Syracuse-Villanova games have been a tradition and a big part of Big East basketball.” Wright is right but it will be weird see these two teams playing each other as Syracuse is now in the ACC, while Villanova is apart of the new Big East Conference.
