It’s been known around the majors that if the Phillies don’t make up ground in the NL East or in the NL Wild Card Race they will most likely be sellers at the MLB trade deadline. Players that have been mentioned are Jonathan Papelbon, Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz, and Michael Young.
We know that the New York Yankees are highly interested in the services of Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz, and Michael Young. But according to a report from George A. King III of the New York Post, he was told by an industry source that the Boston Red Sox want Phillies third baseman Michael Young “badly.”
Can you blame the Red Sox? They right now are playing two young players at third base in Jose Iglesias and Will Middlebrooks, who was demoted to Triple-A Pawtucket not too long ago. So why not try to get a proven professional third baseman in Michael Young, who is playing well for the Phillies this season.
Coming into tonight’s game Young is batting .289 with five home runs and 21 RBI in 74 games. If the Red Sox want to trade for Young it will be hard as he has full no trade clause, which means he has to sign off on a trade. But if the Red Sox cannot obtain Young, don’t be surprise if the Yankees take a run after him because they are hurting at third base as well.
