What To Expect From Eagles Training Camp

Today is the day.  The Eagles open training camp at their home field, Lincoln Financial.  This is the first time in years that camp will not be held at Lehigh.  Going to Lehigh was Coach Reids doing, since he thought it was good opportunity for the team to bond together.

Kelly on the other hand, does not see much of a point in going to Leigh.  He said, “I just think we have everything here, so the fact that we would pack everything up and move, I think that didn’t make sense to me, Kelly said.  All of our video stuff is here … all our (internet) servers are here, so you’re dealing with portable laptops (at Lehigh) and hoping to get practice (video) on them.”  Kelly wants to keep the team in Philadelphia and have them bond here.  The team will be staying in a local hotel, and be eating their meals together just like they did at Leigh.

Kelly has already made it clear that the team will operate differently during camp.  He said, “There’s a certain amount of work that you’ve got to get done that you can’t go full-go every single day.”  What he means by this is that there is no reason to be hitting hard every day, wearing the team out like Reid did.  Players will certainly enjoy Kelly’s new approach to camp, since it does not involve hard hitting every single day.  Kelly still sees importance in camp, but he will take things at a much slower pace which is much to the liking of the players.

Camp is going to be very interesting to watch this year since there are so many questions surrounding this team.  The quarterback situation is the main focus, and hopefully it is figured out soon so there is no more distraction.  Training camp will serve as a “tryout” for Nick Foles and Michael Vick, and each player will get their chance to prove why they best fit Kelly’s new offense.  Practices start at 12:30 each day, opposed to the rest of the league that practices early in the morning.  Kelly wants his players to be used to playing at this time since this is when most of their games are.  Training camp this year involves immense change, and hopefully turns out to be change for the good.
