Phillies pounded in DC

The “good vibes” the Phillies had after winning two of three against the lowly Cubs, went down the drain as the Washington Nationals jumped all over the Philadelphia Phillies, and defeated them 9-2, at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.

Washington struck first in the bottom of the second inning, as Wilson Ramos led off with a single to center off of Phillies starter John Lannan, then after a wild pitch, second baseman Anthony Rendon took a 2-2 pitch, and launched it out to center field for his 6th home run of the year, and that made the score, 2-0.

Then, with two outs, Ryan Zimmerman jumped all over a 1-1 changeup, and crushed deep into the center field seats, to make it 3-0. The home run was Zimmerman’s 13th home run of the year.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Washington’s Ian Desmond got a one out double to right center and then Adam LaRoche hit a drive to left center, and center fielder Michael Martinez (yes starting center fielder) misplayed the ball, then threw a terrible cutoff to Rollins, and allowing Desmond to score on LaRoche’s double, and that made it 4-0.

The Phillies, finally answered back in the top of the 4th inning, as Michael Young hit a one out double to right center, which was the Phillies first hit of the game. Then, Chase Utley lined a single to right that scored Young, and cut the deficit to 4-1.

In the bottom half of the inning, Lannan falls apart. Jayson Werth gets on with a walk, with one out. Then, LaRoche hits a two out single, and putting runners on the corners. Ramos, then lines a double to right center that scored Werth, and putting runners on second and third. Then, after Rendon is intentionally walked, Lannan walks in Haren, to force in another run, and Lannan’s pitching performance ends, by giving up a two-run single to Denard Span, and making the score 8-1 after five innings.

Lannan gives up nine hits, eight earned runs and five walks in five innings. Dreadful.

As for Nationals starter, Dan Haren, he gave up only four hits, two runs and struck out seven in seven innings, for his 7th win of the season.

On Saturday, Cliff Lee will take the mound for the Phillies, and he will take on Taylor Jordan of the Nationals. First pitch–7:05 pm.
