It was announced around 2:30 PM Wednesday that the Phillies have officially signed former Nationals outfielder Roger Bernadina.

Bernadina was only hitting .178 this year, which is terrible, but he did have a good season last year; last year, he hit .291 with 5 home runs, and had an Fld (Fielding – Fielding Runs Above Average based on UZR) of 1.9, which is above average. He also had a walk rate of 10.7%, and an OBP of .372, so he was definitely getting on base a lot. To go with his good OBP, fld, and walk rate, he also had a wRC+ of 114, which is a little bit above average. If he can return to that form for the rest of this season, then I think he will hit leadoff, and will be a great leadoff hitter, something the Phillies haven’t had since mid July when Ben Revere went down.
The Phillies starting RF at the moment is Darin Ruf, but Bernadina will most likely be the starter now.
Since the Phillies got Bernadina, they needed to clear space on the roster, so your favorite Phillie Michael Martinez has been optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
