The Philadelphia Union grabbed a late stoppage time winner against Toronto in a thrilling game at PPL Park. The seldom used Kleberson netted the game wining goal off a free kick in stoppage time. The beautifully struck ball was a work of art, a true Golazo. The Union are continuing the momentum winning 2 games in a row and keeping up the stellar defensive play. This game was action packed and drama filled with the Union having to play a man down for 3o minutes. Midfielder Fabinho received a read card for fighting when he kicked Toronto Defender Alvaro Rey.
Although the Union were able to score a goal they should have scored several goals. They dominated possession and created chance after chance but had an inability to score. Jack Mcinerney could not finish the ball and looked lost for the 50 minutes he was in the game. He made several smart moves but once he got into the attacking third he shied away from the goal. He had several chances to score but he couldn’t pull the trigger, or he pass the ball away instead of shooting he would pass the ball. The game is getting to Jack, he lost all of his confidence. He cant do anything right, he has an inability to connect with his shots. Toronto has a bad defense and Jack could of used the game to break his drought.
The offense may have been lacking but the midfield supplied them with more then enough opportunities for success. Michael Farfan was a catalyst for the midfield constantly dropping back getting the ball into the attacking third. Marfan created chances, distributed the ball and had one of his best games of the season. This quality play is why Marfan was named to the All Star roster last season. Fabinho had a rather lackluster game and do to his red card that means that Hackworth will have to play someone else. Le Toux who has been benched the last 2 games will most likely be instated back into the starting lineup.
The Union are currently holding the last playoff with 45 points and are in position to move up the playoff ladder. The Union are going to take on the worse team in the league in DC United next and if the Union can win against United they could potentially move up to 3rd place. Although the offense is still in a drought they are finding ways to win and score the big goals. The Union have won 2 straight games and are wracking up crucial points. They need to continue to picking up points because after DC they are going to be in two tough games against playoff teams.
