On Monday night, the Cardinals beat the Pirates to tie the NLDS at 2 wins per team. Tonight the Cardinals and the Pirates played game five of this five game series. The Cardinals were the victors once again.

This game was scoreless until the bottom of the second inning, when the postseason wizard, David Freese, hit a two run homer to left field. That gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead. The Cardinals scored again in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Jon Jay singled to center, and drove in Matt Holiday. This gave the Cardinals a 3-0 lead.

The pitcher for the Pirates, Gerrit Cole, pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs. Not a bad start from Cole today.

Adam Wainwright, the pitcher for the Cardinals this evening, pitched nine innings and gave up only one earned run. This was an amazing start from Adam Wainwright tonight.

In the top of the seventh inning, Pedro Alvarez hit a ground ball down the first base line that took a weird hop and bounced over the head of the first basemen. That drove a run in, and brought the Pirates within two runs. The Pirates would not score another run in the game, and the Cardinals ended up winning 6-1.

Both teams played their hearts out this series, just like they did all season long. This was definitely playoff baseball at its finest.

For the last time this season, you can lower the jolly roger.
