Eagles Vs. Buccaneers Recap

Well, today in Tampa Bay were the Philadelphia Eagles took on the Tampa Bay Bucs, we learned three things about this team. We learned that the Eagles offense can be ran by either Foles or Vick, that Chip Kelly’s system can work with Foles, and that we could possibly have a quarterback controversy. Nick Foles threw for 296 yards on 31 pass attempts with 22 completions shows how efficient this Eagle offense can be. During the game Nick Foles showed poise in the pocket and he failed to throw an interception. He showed perfect touch and accuracy on the ball with his touchdown passes to both Riley Cooper and Desean Jackson. Even though Tampa Bay defense thought they didn’t have to worry about Nick Foles running the ball in the read option, he did get a touchdown running the read option. What we saw today was a positive response from Michael Vick’s injury.

No, Michael Vick doesn’t deserve to lose his starting job because he was injured but it does raise a few eye brows about his efficiency and decision making. Time and time again we have witnessed Vick holding onto the ball for to long and forcing passes into places that shouldn’t be thrown. Yes, we want to try to keep plays alive but, when you throw the ball into coverage or take a big hit, I’m pretty sure everybody wants you to throw the ball away. Like Nick Foles does, or atleast learn how to slide properly. Also, the fact that last week Michael Vick got injured on a non-contact play were he was running the ball and he pulled his hamstring, should be a caution sign because he isn’t reliable. The Eagles should have quarterback that knows what he can do and knows how to protect himself. Like it or not, Vick doesn’t know how to protect himself.

All in all, it was a great showing by the Philadelphia Eagles McCoy had a good showing with 25 carries for 116 yards. McCoy continues to dominate the defenses with his elusive play style and evasion of tackles. The attention the defenses have to give to McCoy really makes it easier on Foles. Riley Cooper had a great game and it was really shocking to see how he would be able to produce. On long passes, Riley Cooper had 4 catches on 120 yards and 30 yards average on a catch. Cooper bounced back from a pathetic start to the season, he was really struggling but he definitely showed up for this game. Desean Jackson had 6 catches for 64 yards. He certainly proved that he could back up his trash talk with his two touchdown receptions. Solid contributions, from Brent Celek and Jason Avant.

It was great play calling by Chip Kelly by calling 4 screen plays in a row when the Eagle offense hadn’t moved the ball. The screen plays put momentum back on the Eagles side of the ball and it really made a difference because when it really mattered that play was there.

The defense still did not have they’re best showing, they allowed a rookie to throw for 273 yards, and Vincent Jackson 9 catches for 114 yards. The Eagle secondary had no answer for Vincent Jackson as it seemed like he would catch everything that was thrown in his direction. Misreads by the defense wasn’t enough for Tampa Bay to win the game.

Great win for the Philadelphia Eagles as they win 31-20 and give Chip Kelly his first win streak in his short Professional coaching job. Kelly will definitely have his hands full trying to figure out who his starting quarterback will be next week as this possible quarterback controversy emerges.
