The Oregon Ducks have survived without arguably the best running back in the country in De’Anthony Thomas. The Ducks, who are ranked third in the BCS standings, will get Thomas back this weekend versus the UCLA Bruins.
According to Jason Quick of The Oregonian, Thomas said “I’m ready. I’m hungry and ready to get back on the field.” This is just what UCLA did not want to hear. Thomas has only played in the first three games of the season but seems to be ready to go.
So far with 42 carries, Thomas has already rushed for 338 yards and six touchdowns. In Thomas’ last game which was September 14th against the Tennessee Volunteers, he rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries before leaving with an injury. If Thomas can stay healthy for the rest of the season, that might help push Oregon into the BCS National Championship.
Thomas also needs to build his draft stock as it looks like he will be the first running back taken off the board in next April’s draft. In my opinion, Thomas is a first round pick and could possibly be a top 15 pick. First things first, take care of business, stay healthy and beat UCLA on Saturday.
