As I mentioned before in the Earl Pettis’ piece about Philadelphia area players that were being selected in the 2013 NBA D-League Draft, you can add another player to the list. Last night, Villanova big man Maurice Sutton was drafted by the Tulsa 66ers in the third round.
The 66ers are the official D-League affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder have had some good players on their D-League team such as Reggie Jackson and Jeremy Lamb who will both be key factors this season.
Maurice Sutton brings his athleticism and height to the 66ers as he should get a lot of playing time. In his senior season at Villanova, Sutton averaged 3.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Sutton’s game will get better as he is a big body standing at 6-foot-11 and 220 pounds.
Also joining Sutton on the 66ers is Philadelphia native Scoop Jardine, who was also drafted in the third round. But for the 66ers, the focus will be on number one pick Grant Jerrett, who was drafted 40th overall by the Portland Trailblazers in the 2013 NBA Draft and then traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The pressure will be on Jerrett to see if he will be called up at anytime during this NBA season.
