In the first game of ESPN’s 24-hour College Basketball Tip-Off Marathon, it was a matchup between the Kent State Golden Flashes out of the MAC and the Temple Owls out of the American Athletic Conference.
On paper, this matchup looked pretty even but it was far from it as both teams would trade shots at each other and Temple would lead as much as six points but it did not matter. The Golden Flashes would shoot the three ball very well and defeat the Owls 81-77.
Kent State was 11 of 22 from the three point line while Temple was 5 of 16. The three ball kept Kent State in this game and the Owls would start to take dumb shots. Temple forward Anthony Lee had a big impact on today’s game early and often as the Owls dominated the paint to begin the game.
Lee would have a double-double tonight consisting of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Also, guard Quenton DeCosey had a good game as he had majority of Temple’s three pointers tonight giving him 16 points.
But the Owls could not stop guards Derek Jackson and Devareaux Manley who both scored 17 points a piece and shot well from three point range. Off the bench, guard Kellon Thomas was the ex-factor as he scored 11 points in 19 minutes.
The Owls are now 1-1 on the season and will take on Towson on Thursday night at 7:30 pm ET.
