The Philadelphia Phillies have signed utility infielder Andres Blanco to a minor league deal. This deal does include an invitation to big league spring training. The last time that Blanco played a major league game was in 2011, and the last time he played a minor league game was 2012 with the Phillies’ Triple-a affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, in fact.
There was some more Phillies news today; they have hired pitching coach Bob McClure. McClure has served as the pitching coach for the Kansas City Royals from 2006-2011, and was with the Boston Red Sox in 2012. He is a former left handed pitcher who played from 1975-1993; he played for many different teams, such as the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Montreal Expos, New York Mets, California Angels, St. Louis Cardinals, and Florida Marlins.
