Temple sophomore linebacker Tyler Matakevich has been named to the American Athletic Conference’s first team , all conference defense on Wednesday.
Matakevich, is the only Temple player to be named on either the first or second team American Athletic Conference all conference teams. Matakevich had an impressive season as a sophomore leading the AAC in total tackles with 137 and leading the nation in solo tackles with 99 with 11 1/2 of those being tackles for loss. He also forced three fumbles and two had two fumble recoveries
Matakevich, season was built upon an outstanding freshman season when he became the first ever freshman in Temple history to record 100 tackles in a season as he won Big East rookie of the year.
Coming out of high school, Tyler was a two-star recruit who wasn’t heavily recruited. Now, he’s considered to be one of the top 10 linebackers in the country who will be available in the 2015 NFL Draft.
