Today, December 13th, 2013, was a pretty calm day in the baseball world, but there were two big signings.
- Rays Re-Sign James Loney: The Tampa Bay Rays and James Loney have both agreed to a three year, $21 million contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. This deal is pending a physical. Loney was seeking $27-30 million, so I’m surprised that the Rays got him for just $21 million. Most of the moves that the Rays make are great though, so I probably shouldn’t be surprised. Loney performed well with the Rays last season; he had a slash line of .299/.348/.430, to go along with 13 home runs and 75 runs batted in. He was very productive.
- Royals Sign Omar Infante: The Kansas City Royals and Omar Infante have agreed to a four year, $30.25 million deal, that also includes some incentives. Infante played really well with the Tigers last season; he hit 10 home runs and had a slash line of .318/.345/.450. I like this signing by the Royals, Infante is much better than the other two second base options that the Royals had, Emilio Bonifacio and Johnny Giavotella.
