Bryant, had just returned from a torn left Achilles tendon that he suffered last season and was able to play in just six games before suffering this devastating injury. In those six games, Bryant averaged 13.8 points to go along with 6.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. The injury seemed to occur in the Lakers’ Tuesday night win against the Memphis Grizzlies , at the time he told reporters his knee was just stiff.
Lakers’ backup SF Xavier Henry will take over Bryant’s duties over the next six weeks. Henry has averaged just over five points (5.3) in his career to go along with a career averages of 0.6 assists a game and 1.9 rebounds a game.
D’Antoni: “You hate it for Kobe. He’s worked so hard to get back.” @XavierHenry will take over PG duties for the short-handed Lakers.
