Soldier Field Chicago, Illinois is where most people say will be the game of the year for the Northern Division Title between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers is taking place. It all boils down to one game, these two teams last met on week nine of the NFL schedule. The Bears won that game with a score of 27 to 20. Aaron Rogers was taken out on the Packers first drive of the game, Seneca Wallace was his backup. Wallace struggled against the Bears only completing only 11 of 19 passes for 114 yards. Chicago also had a backup quarterback in the game as Jay Cutler was recovering from his sprained ankle. McCown played well 22 of 41 for 272 yards and two touchdowns. A lot of people would have thought that both teams would be down for after injuries to there starting quarterbacks but that’s not the case. The Bears enter Sunday’s 4:15 game with a 8-7 record and Green Bay comes with a 7-7-1 record. The last meeting did not feature the two starting quarterbacks, so this game has the potential to be a classic.
Last Sunday, the Bears had a huge chance to lock up the the Northern Division with a win over Philadelphia’s beloved Eagles, but instead the Bears were destroyed and torn apart by the birds. The only reason why this was possible was because Green Bay lost and if Chicago won then it would have knocked out Green Bay. The Eagles who were playing for just about nothing did not take they’re foot off of the pedal because the Dallas Cowboys won there game against the Washington Redskins. If the Cowboys would have lost the Eagles would have won the NFC East Division. In Jay Cutlers return to the Bears he threw for 222 yards on 21 of 35 attempts and one touchdown. Ultimately Chicago allowed 54 points to the Eagles explosive offense. Jay Cutler struggled and he missed open receivers and he also threw a interception to Brandon Boykins who took it back for a touchdown. In the fourth quarter Cutler was benched in his first game back. The damage was already done though as the Bears only scored 11 points. The question this week for Chicago is how long will Jay Cutler be left in the game if he struggles? We shall find out Sunday.
The Packers lost in a shootout to the Pittsburg Steelers with a score of 38 to 31. Green Bay had bought in quarterback Matt Flynn to take over for the struggling Seneca Wallace. Matt Flynn threw for 232 on 21 of 39 passing attempts and he had one touchdown. Flynn had also threw a interception for a touchdown which was ultimately the difference in the game.The Packers do get there star quarterback Aaron Rogers back who missed the last seven games. Some fans are worried about rust, Rogers teammates do believe that he will come back sharp as if he didn’t miss a game. Before Rogers broke his collarbone on week 9 against the bears they had a 5-2 record and they are still in it with a unusual 7-7-1 record. I say it’s unusual because it’s not often that teams have a tie in football.
So let the countdown begin to what is now the game of the year only because Tony Romo is out with a herniated disk in his back. He had surgery on it this morning otherwise the Philadelphia Eagles against the Dallas Cowboys would have possibly been the game of the year. The Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears face off in a win or go home type of regular season game. I believe that the Packers have the better team overall and that they will come away with the win with a score of 35 to 24. The win will give them the fourth seed in the standings and they will play next week in the Wild Card game.
