Perhaps we were a bit wrong about the Flyers needing to establish a solid lead into the third?
Maybe the comeback trend is the way to go for this club as it showed once again that it more than likely has a tendency to lose with a lead, than they will without one going into the final period of games.
Who knew.
The game definitely featured some solid plot lines, most the message in a bottle chippy feel that carried over from the previous contest over the weekend. Kyle Okposo got his pound of flesh(I guess) against Braydon Coburn, his way of revenge for a perceived shot by Adam Hall from the game before. Matt Carkner and Jay Rosehill traded bare knuckles, the second time in two games that Rosey traded fisticuffs with an Islander. It’s become apparent neither of these teams likes each other very much.
Ultimately, it was a lack of discipline that killed the Flyers in this one, as their normally stout penalty kill just couldn’t hold up to the pressing Isles, yielding two power play goals in the process. Steve Downie took the worst of untimely penalties late in the game, and this enabled the Islanders to tie it on Kyle Okposo’s 20th goal of the season. Ray Emery played quite well, but had to face nearly 20 shots in each of the last two periods.
A completely backwards game for Philly, indeed.
They’ll get a chance to right the ship this evening against the Carolina Hurricanes, and at home, but they’ll need to play a cleaner game in order to succeed. No more terrible penalties, gents.
