The Penn State Nittany Lions led the 16th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes 33-31 at the half. That would be all she wrote for Penn State as the Hawkeyes would take control and go on to an 82-70 victory.

A win today for the Nittany Lions would make their week complete as they defeated Indiana earlier this week 66-65 on a Tim Frazier game winning layup. Regardless, even though Penn State lost, they are putting themselves in the running for a potential postseason bid.

For the Nittany Lions, D.J. Newbill provided the offense as he was the game’s leading scorer. Newbill shot the ball well from the field, shooting 10 of 15 and scoring 22 points. The rest of the Nittany Lions were ineffective including senior guard Tim Frazier who only scored 11 points.

Frazier shot 4 of 17 from the field but grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists. For the Iowa Hawkeyes, the only difference in them winning was their three point shooting.

The Hawkeyes shot 36.8 percent while Penn State shot 18.8 percent from the three point line. Four out of the five starters for Iowa were in double figures. Mike Gesell was 4 of 5 from the three point line and had 13 points to go along with seven assists.

With today’s loss, the Nittany Lions are now 13-13 on the season and 4-9 in the Big Ten. The next time the Nittany Lions play is on the 20th against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
