Okay so it has been a while since TSL has done a 2014 NFL Draft Scouting Report. Well, here we go as we bring you a new prospect to keep your eye on in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Today, I will be taking a look at Towson University running back Terrance West, who is a junior and is 5-foot-11 and 223 lbs. West has all the tools to become a great back in the NFL but the only thing that hinders him is his competition which I will break down later in this article.

Let’s take a look at the positives of West’s game. One thing that the NFL is missing these days is a power back and that what West is. Terrance West is a power back and is good at following his blocks. Many running backs follow their blocks but don’t hit the hole immediately. West is different. He follows his blocks well and can hit the hole. Once he does that, he is gone for a touchdown.

Now, another positive of West’s game is his speed. Looking at his game film, once he gets into space he has deceptive speed meaning opponents think they can catch him but he just goes into another gear. As I mentioned before when talking about him following his blocks, he has great vision which leads to the patience that he needs to hit the hole.

A key reason that could make West a number one running back one day is that he is a home run hitter at any moments notice he can take it the distance. For a defense, that means you have to stack the box against Towson which could then open up the passing lanes.

Finally, the last two positives of his game are that he knows how to lineup in multiple formations. As we are seeing now, the NFL is starting to become more of a shotgun and pistol league. At Towson, West lined up in shotgun and in i-formation a lot but that leads me to a negative of his.

One negative of West’s game that I saw was I didn’t see him in pass block enough. If you are a team that loves to run shotgun a lot, you need to have a good pass blocking running back to take the heat off of the quarterback. Terrance West could learn how to become a better pass blocker. Just take a look at Philadelphia Eagles running back Lesean McCoy. McCoy as a rookie was not a good pass blocker but he got better at it.

Finally, the last negative which isn’t on his game is what teams will look at is his competition. West played in the FCS and some teams might look at it as a bad thing but other teams might see it as a good thing meaning he dominated his competition. To show how he dominated the competition here are his stats from this season.

This season: 413 carries, 2,509 yards, 41 touchdowns/26 receptions, 258 yards, 1 touchdown

His best season which was 2011: 194 carries, 1,294 yards, 29 touchdowns/5 receptions, 25 yards, 0 touchdowns

NFL Draft Projection: 3rd-5th round
