With a wholehearted smile and a final wave, Andrew Wiggins walked off the court at Allen Fieldhouse for the final time as a Jayhawk and what a run it was; culminating in a 10th straight Big 12 title.
“I am happy, yet sad it is my last game. I have enjoyed my time here. I am thankful for everything. I’ve been blessed with a good team, great coaches and the best fans anyone could ever ask for.” Wiggins said after scoring nine points with four rebounds in Kansas’ 82-57 victory over Texas Tech on Wednesday.
Despite how he performs in March’s NCAA Tournament, Wiggins has cemented himself as a top three draft pick in large part to his two-way potential and unworldly athleticism that could make Lebron jump out his seat.
With the 76ers in the captain’s seat of a sinking vessel it is highly possible the team surpasses the Milwaukee Bucks for worst record in the league and secures the most ping pong balls in the draft and awarded the number one overall pick. A pick most scouts have tied to Wiggins KU teammate Joel Embiid, an athletic 7-footer who many believe has shown shades of Olajuwon in his game. While Embiid may have the rarest talent in the draft, expect the Sixers to put their trust in the development of Nerlens Noel as their franchise center and instead go with the athleticism and potential of Wiggins if they do get the first pick.
“This is a process”. It’s a motto that’s been repeated by general manager Sam Hinkie and head coach Brett Brown for nearly seven months and it’s beginning to fall into place. Wiggins may not come in and set the league on fire as he still has plenty of refinements to work on in his game, but one thing the 76ers have is time. With a multitude a draft picks and some young talent to be excited for, the Sixers direction seems to be on the up, even amidst a down season record wise.
“One of the things that excited me is, I in many ways, have hitched my car to Sam Hinkie”, Coach Brown.
