Tuesday evening at the University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio the Great Danes of Albany took on the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary in the first four of the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Mount St. Mary struggled early, opening the game shooting 0-11 from the field. The Mountaineers would come back soon with a 24-4 run late in the first half with help from Rashad Whack who ended the game with 16 points, and Will Miller’s 21 points, although Albany still prevailed with a four point lead at the half.

Albany out-rebounded Mount St. Mary 42-23, perhaps one of the ultimate factors in tonight’s 71-64 victory. Guard DJ Evans filled up the stat sheet with 22 points and nine rebounds, just short of a double-double. Evans is a player to watch when Albany takes on the Florida Gators tomorrow afternoon.  Peter Hooley’s 20 points and four rebounds helped the Great Danes in their first time victory in the NCAA tournament as well.

Albany advances in the tournament and will play, the number one ranked, SEC Title Champions, Florida Gators Wednesday at 4:10p.m. in Orlando Florida.
