It’s the first day of spring, and the NCAA Tournament is underway. While a beautiful day passes by basketball fans are ensued in the start of the round of 64. Upsets and blow outs are in full effect.

Pittsburgh jumped out of the gates early in Orlando, Florida against Colorado. Pitt started with a 7-0 run, in fact Colorado did not light up the board until about six minutes into the first half, and wouldn’t  go on to hit double figures until about 15 minutes into the first half.

Turnovers were a huge problem for Colorado giving up 12 transition points in the first half alone. Shooting was down at the half as well only scoring 5 of 17 from the field. Pittsburgh’s smart strategy forced Colorado to shoot from the perimeter knowing beforehand Colorado’s success would depend on penetrating the basket.

Pittsburgh controlled the entire games pace and tone. They did not take forceful shots, staying patient, controlled, and consistent. Also finishing in transition was a key to their success alongside a strong defense.

Pittsburgh’s own Talib Zanna played with a stomach virus, but had an outstanding game leading with 18 points; guard Cameron Wright scoring 11 points; and Lamar Patterson with 10 points.

Pittsburgh will advance to the round of 32 playing the winner of tonight’s Florida versus Albany game.
