The NBA Rivalry Should Be Worth It In the Playoffs

The National Basketball Association regular season is over. The playoffs are here. Although a sports rivalry is exhilarating and entertaining the world, there is an anticipation that the hatred and animosity between two NBA teams arise in the playoffs, which will begin on Saturday, April 19. As soon as the NBA playoffs begin, the war begins. It should be worth it in the playoffs.

Several NBA coaches and players believe that two teams or competitors possess the right to earn a rivalry status if they have a long history of winning. They may be right, but it is more to it as well. A sports rivalry is an occasion that produced a bad blood between teams and players, especially in the playoffs. Sometimes the team and players play against the opponents frequently, which can create a rival.

In terms of a rivalry, the NBA teams and players possess the desire to prove to the world that they are the world’s best talented players, merciless competitors, and they are more than eager to fight against rival opponent in search for superiority and greatness. The rival should not only be based solely on the history of winning, but also based on how much the competitors dislike each other and how they desire to defeat a rival opponent.

NBA writer Elliot Kalb is the guy who stands out the true meaning of rivals in the NBA:

There are several ingredient needed in order to make a great rivalry in professional sports. The rivals need to face each other in meaningful games for a number of years. They need to play with distinct style. Their fans have to build passion against the city and team. And the coaches and players have to have a mutual respect for one another.

The rivals have occurred in this past season. The Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers fought against each other, incorporating taunting toward the opponents. They are in the pursuit of the power and supremacy, which one sports journalist of the USA Today considers them the greatest rivalry in the NBA right now. The Heat and Pacers will not meet each other unless they win and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, which most people predict it will happen.

The almost brawl between the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors occurred during the game on a Christmas Day, December 25, 2013. Eventually they became a rivalry. One fan once told me via Twitter: “That’s what I [bleep] want to see!” When is the last time people in the sports world discuss a rivalry between the Clippers and Warriors. Apparently, the rivalry between these two teams had never been discussed decades ago.

Finally, the writer of the Clips Nation wrote an incredible story regarding the rivalry of the Clippers and Warriors this year.

The Clippers head coach Doc Rivers bluntly remarked that the Clippers and Warriors are great teams to play against, but they have not accomplished anything yet. Rivers thinks that winning playoff games against a good team each year will create a rivalry status. Warriors head coach Mark Jackson agrees with him as well. The Clippers and Warriors will meet in the first round of the NBA playoffs at the Staples Center this Saturday at 3:oo pm ET.

Whether the coaches agree or not about a rivalry status itself, the overall rival match up, particularity in the playoffs, can enhance the game attendance and television ratings. Sometimes the rival situation can get out of control or can lead to brawl, incorporating fighting and rioting, but the world is constantly enthusiastic to see the rivalry game that matters the most. It is not difficult to understand why the rivalry in the playoffs is worth it.

Any playoff teams can produce the rivalry when they dislike each other. The rival can come from the teams or players who have the passion to overthrow the rival opponents so badly. If one of any playoff teams seeks a championship ring, it takes more than just playing the game of basketball, particularly in the playoffs. When it comes to the playoffs, it is a business. Only one team will win the NBA championship. That makes the sports world feel so exciting and worth it.

When the playoffs are on the line, there is no question in mind that there will be a plenty of technical and flagrant fouls, which incorporates punching, slapping, pushing, kicking, and more. In order to win the championship, they must be more than willing to fight hard to obtain the ring. Fighting against a rival opponent or team for what they want is what makes the rivalry classic. The history of the rival will be made therefore it is not going to go away.

The rivalry itself has the ability to bring people to love the game. There is no surprise that the fans, journalists, or the media want to follow a rivalry game that matters the most, especially in the playoffs. Truthfully, in the eyes of the sports world, the rivalry between the teams in the playoffs is what makes sports so fun, exhilarating, and entertaining. It is obviously exciting for the fans to watch, journalists to write, and media to produce the rivalry game.
