Philadelphia Flyer fans will not like this breaking news on the cusp of Game 2 tomorrow. According to TSN reporter Mark Masters, Flyers goaltender Steve Mason will not play in tomorrow’s Game 2.

This is not good for the Flyers or their fans as they lost Thursday night to the New York Rangers in Game 1 4-1. In the third period, the Flyers imploded and part of that blame has been going on Jason Akeson for taking a dumb penalty. Anyway, it also falls on the goalie as Ray Emery was not sharp.

The Flyers have to hope that Emery does not get hurt tomorrow because backing him up will be Cal Heeter. Heeter, who is just a rookie did not have a great performance in the regular season finale versus the Carolina Hurricanes.

The bright side of this is Mason did practice today according to Masters, which means he could be ready for Game 3 in Philadelphia. This season, Mason has a 2.50 GAA and a .917 save percentage. He has been great for the Flyers this season and his teammates must get a win tomorrow afternoon to tie the series up at 1-1.
