On Tuesday night, the Habs completed their sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning, winning the decisive fourth game 4-3 at Bell Centre in Montreal. The season is over for the Lightning, while the Canadiens await the winner of the Boston Bruins – Detroit Red Wings series.
Like Game Three, the Bell Centre was rocking early, as Danny Briere scored less than three minutes into the first period. Less than thirteen minutes later, Lars Eller scored to put Montreal up 2-0.
However, the Lightning potted the next goal, a short-handed tally from Ondrej Palat. However, less than a minute later, Brendan Gallagher continued his hot first round when he tallied his third goal of the young postseason.
The Lightning stayed resilient, much like they have this entire season. Victor Hedman cut the lead in half 3:29 into the final period, and Tyler Johnson tied it three minutes later.
However, Cedric Paquette tripped Habs defenseman Francis Bouillon, sending the Canadiens to the powerplay. With just under 43 seconds remaining in regulation, Max Pacioretty scored his first career playoff goal, putting the dagger in the hearts of Lightning fans.
