Report: John Mayberry Jr. drawing attention from New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox

-28

It seems like Philadelphia Phillies outfielder John Mayberry Jr. is making a claim for himself to get more playing time but also other teams are starting to take notice.

Right now, John Mayberry Jr. is on fire while the Phillies are currently thin in the outfield with Ben Revere and Darin Ruf dealing with injuries and now Tony Gwynn Jr. on bereavement leave.

Currently, this season, Mayberry Jr. has a .256 batting average with five home runs and 19 RBIs. In the last seven games, he is batting .333 with one home run, three walks, and three RBIs.

With his great play, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees are starting to take a look at the outfielder. According to CSNPhilly.com’s Jim Salisbury, the Red Sox are looking for outfield depth and had scouts at recent Phillies games including Tuesday’s.

Then according to a major league source, they told Salisbury that the Yankees are a team to watch on Mayberry Jr. The Yankees had a scout at Wednesday’s game in Atlanta.

Right now, the Phillies cannot make a trade involving Mayberry Jr. because as I stated they are very thin in the outfield and need his production in the lineup. Now, that could all change with Revere getting healthy and Gwynn Jr. coming back soon but it is still a long way until the trade deadline.
