BRIDGEWATER, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (48-27) quicky fell behind to the Sugar Land Skeeters (42-34,) after a rough outing from Jon Lucas that ended before the first inning did.

Sugar Land batted around and knocked in eight runs before manager Brett Jodie decided to pull Lucas from the game. Daniel Herrera relieved him, having a good outing throwing four shutout innings and helping save the bullpen. In the seventh inning Chase Lambin knocked in a run, making the score seven nothing and putting the Patriots down a touchdown, seven nothing.

For Sugar Land, this was a solid all-around game, beating up the best team in the league. The game started with them loading the basses for Travis Scott who hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the first of six runs that inning.

This would have been a good pitching performance for Somerset if Jon Lucas’s first inning never happened. Herrera came in and threw a solid four innings, and threw more than his usual one inning appearances. The former Cincinnati Red, who was a part of the trade that brought Josh Hamilton to Texas, threw for double the innings then he has this year, previously topping out at two innings on June 13th.

Despite the blowout loss, the team is still in good standing for the season after winning out the first half of the year which clinches them a playoff berth. The team will send four players to the All-Star game coming up soon. The team will take on Sugar Land once again Sunday, as they try to redeem themselves from an embarrassing first inning of baseball.
