Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has been handed a suspension for one game by the NFL.

Bowe had been arrested for illegal possession of marijuana, which violates the league’s substance abuse policy.

Bowe has a short history of suspensions by the NFL, as he was handed four games back in the 2009 season for the usage of PED’s.

The Chiefs open their season at home against the Tennessee Titans, which will be the game that Bowe misses. He will be eligible to play in Kansas City’s second game in Denver against the Broncos.

Bowe scored five touchdowns last season through the air in fifteen games played. He finished the 2013 campaign with his worst yards per game average, with a mean of slightly under 45 yards per game. Last season also marked his lowest season reception total since his shortened 2009 season, and Bowe also averaged the least amount of average receptions per game in his career.

This suspension will also likely cost Bowe a large sum of money. Per Joel Corry of CBSSports.com, Bowe’s base salary guarantees for the ’14 and ’15 seasons have been voided due to his suspension.
