The trade is finally official as early Saturday afternoon, Kevin Love was dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for former number one pick Anthony Bennett and this year’s number one pick Andrew Wiggins. The Cavaliers will have a huge uprising after pairing Love with two time NBA champion Lebron James. The move comes weeks after so much speculation and rumor after rumor about which players were involved. The trade also includes a third team, which happens to be the Philadelphia 76ers, as the team has finally decided to part ways with eight year forward Thaddeus Young. Young will be joining Wiggins and Bennett in Minnesota and will try to start a new generation in Timberwolves basketball. For many days it was speculated that the 76ers would be receiving Bennett but instead the team will receive Alexey Shved and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute and a 2015 first round draft pick courtesy of the Miami Heat.
It is way too early to say which teams won this trade as the season has yet to begin. The clear front runner has to be the Cavaliers as they bring together a deadly force of offensive scoring power and a supreme rebounding threat. The Wolves fared quite well seeing as how they lost a cornerstone of the franchise. Andrew Wiggins is the next biggest thing since Lebron James according to most scouts and adding a veteran like Thad Young to the mix makes the team quite energized and they make shock a few people come this new NBA season.
It will be a lot like last season in Philadelphia, as they receive the least sexy of the names on paper. Shved and Mbah a Moute are both role players and both are still relatively young. Mbah a Moute has had a longer NBA career and has played for several NBA teams before landing in Philadelphia. Drafted in 2008, the former UCLA Bruin has yet to still make a name for himself on an NBA roster. Shved has played only two seasons in the NBA where he has averaged 8.6 points per game last season. Shved will make the most of his opportunity here in Philadelphia as there is no concise starter at the shooting guard position.
Finally, the Sixers also have another first round pick for the third year in a row. The pick originally belonged to the Miami Heat and will probably be in the mid to high 20’s.
