Even though, the Philadelphia Phillies loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in extra innings on Saturday night, there was big feat that was accomplished in their farm system.

Third base prospect Maikel Franco hit for the cycle last night at Triple-A Lehigh Valley against the Syracuse Chiefs. Franco hit for the cycle in his first four at-bats. He had a double in the second inning, a triple in the third, a single in the fourth and a solo home run that he hit to dead centerfield in the sixth to complete the cycle.

The Phils’ prospect has been playing well down in Triple-A this season. In 124 games for Lehigh Valley, Franco has a .254/.295/.417 slash line. He also has 14 home runs and 69 RBIs.

All signs point to Franco being called up in September when rosters expand. The third base prospect is currently ranked as the Phillies number three prospect in the organization behind J.P. Crawford and Aaron Nola.

In July, Franco represented the Phillies at the 2014 Futures Game and looks as if he is ready to take off. If he does get called up in September, expect him to compete for the starting job at third base with Cody Asche in March.
