Just days before Rutgers plays their first conference game in the Big Ten , head coach Kyle Flood has signed a two-year contract extension on Thursday per the university’s athletics conference.
This season, Flood is being paid $950,000, which is the lowest of any Big Ten coach. However, Flood’s salary will increase to $1.25 million next season, and increase to $1.45 million in 2017 and to $1.55 million in 2018.
The contract extension comes at a time when Flood’s future with the program was up in the air. However, after an impressive 2-0 start for Rutgers which included an impressive victory over Washington State, the university decided to lock Flood up for at least another two seasons.
Last season, the Scarlet Knights went 6-7, after getting off to a 4-1 start. The Scarlet Knight’s take on Penn State on Saturday as an underdog in a matchup that will have a lot of aftereffect when it comes to recruiting. So far in the current recruiting cycle, Penn State has claimed most of the top ten players in New Jersey including QB Brandon Wimbush (St.Peter’s Prep). A Rutgers’ victory could potentially cause a great amount of interest from in-state recruits towards the program, however a Penn State victory could mean the end for Rutgers’ at least in this recruiting cycle, and even possibly in 2016’s.
Flood is 17-11 in his head coaching career, going 9-4 and 6-7 in the last two seasons respectively.
